When is the Serie A 2024?
Following the disruption caused by last year’s World Cup, Serie A 2023/24 returns to a standard schedule and format. The first fixtures commenced on Saturday, 19 August 2023, and the season ended on Sunday, 26 May 2024, where the Serie A champions were crowned.
History of Serie A
The Italian Serie A is one of the oldest professional soccer leagues in Europe and was established in 1929, though it has changed over the years since its launch.
Inter Milan have spent an incredible 93 seasons in Serie A and are the only team to have played in Italy’s top flight every year since its inception.
The league was modified in the 2004/05 season to include 20 teams, which shows how many squads compete in the division.
The Old Lady of Italian soccer, Juventus, are Italy’s most successful team, with 36 titles to their name. Inter Milan and their city neighbors AC both have 19 titles and 16 runners-up medals apiece - incredible synergy for such fierce rivals.
When Napoli lifted the Scudetto at the end of the 2023 season, it was their third Serie A triumph and their first since a Diego Maradona-inspired team won the crown in 1989-90.
