History of EPL & Premier League 2024 Overview
The biggest clubs in the world play in the English Premier League, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and more. Along with league competition during the season, English teams also actively compete for domestic glory in the FA Cup and the League Cup. Of course, there's also the thrill of European competitions as the top teams from across the continent play in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.
Star power is in no shortage in the world's biggest domestic league, with the world's top players competing for glory every year in the English Premier League. Superstars such as Martin Odegaard, Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bruno Fernandes, Son Heung-min, Bukayo Saka and many more call the Premier League home, doing battle every week during the season for ultimate supremacy.
2023/24 Title Race
Last season saw Manchester City crowned the league title winner for a historic fourth consecutive season. No other team has achieved this feat, and Pep Guardiola's side looked unstoppable for most of the season. Although Arsenal took the title race to the final day, they fell just two points short of overcoming the Sky Blues.
Liverpool looked strong at times with a new midfield but were never really in the running for the title. Their fans faced a shock as head coach Jurgen Klopp announced he would be retiring at the end of the season, ending an epic rivalry between himself and Guardiola.
2023/24 European Qualification
The race for European qualification places was just as exciting as the title race and came down to the wire. Throughout the season, teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle were in the running for Champions League, Europa League and Conference League qualification spots.
Ultimately, only four teams can qualify for the Champions League, and the top three spots were taken by Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool. Fourth place was hotly contested, but Aston Villa cinched it thanks to some excellent performances.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur took fifth place, securing Europa League for next season, and Manchester United took the final spot in the Europa League despite finishing 8th. This is thanks to their FA Cup triumph over rivals Man City. Lastly, Chelsea will join the Conference League playoff round for next season after finishing sixth.
When is the Premier League 2024/2025?
The new EPL season kicks off on August 17, 2024. The curtain raiser will be the Community Shield match, held between league champions Manchester City and FA Cup winner Manchester United on August 10.
This is a later start compared to last season, with the longer summer break recommended by experts over a short midseason break. The full fixture dates will be released on June 18.
As always, the league will end in May, with the final games taking place simultaneously on May 25, 2025.
Which Teams are Playing in the Premier League 2024/2025?
The three teams that joined the league from the Championship last season, Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United, were all relegated straight back down, but three new teams will take their place.
Leicester City are returning to the top flight after winning the Championship and will be joined by runners-up Ipswich Town and playoff winners Southampton. Both Leicester and Southampton spent just one season in the Championship, bouncing back up. However, this is the first time Ipswich has been at the top of the English football pyramid since the 2001/02 season. They secured back-to-back promotions from League One and the Championship.
With these three teams confirmed, the twenty teams competing in the 2024/25 EPL season are Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers
2024/2025 Premier League Season Format & Schedule
The EPL begins in August 2024 after the Euros and will run until May 2025. Rather than using a midseason break, the Premier League has opted to extend the summer break by an extra week. However, efforts have also been made to reduce fixture congestion across Christmas and New Year.
No games will be played on December 24, and clubs won't have to play a league game within 60 hours of another match. This is an extension of the 48-hour rest in the previous season, meaning players will be able to perform at their best, and hopefully, injuries will also be reduced.
A total of 380 matches will be played over the entire season, including 33 weekends, four midweek rounds and one bank holiday matchweek.

Betting on 2024/25 Premier League Matches
The simplest way to get started with betting on English Premier League would be to gamble on the individual matches themselves.
3-way Moneyline wager is the most straightforward wager - a bet on one of the three outcomes of a match: home team win, away team win or a draw with weighted odds for favourites and underdogs.
Beyond the outcome of a football match in the EPL, you can also bet on some of the activities during the match. These include the first team to score a goal, if both teams score, no teams score, odd/even goals scored, the margin of goals, goals by half, goals in 10 or 15-minute intervals (minute markets), goal totals, Asian totals and many more scoring based betting options.
Player props are also available, primarily for goal scorers: bet on who is first to score, has the most goals, scores any goals, score the last goal and more for your favourite football player.
For more variety in odds, handicap options are available for each fixture. This includes the common European Handicap (also known as the '3-way handicap'), which provides a conditional starting score range to adjust the odds. The Asian Handicap is a form of spread betting that has adjusted outcomes based on the winning margin of the teams.
If you want to combine multiple bets into one, you can also create the same-game multi bet builder. This lets you add several betting markets from the same game into a parlay, increasing your odds. Whatever you bet on, make sure you're following our Stake Smart responsible gambling guidelines to have fun while spending less.
