History of CS2 & BLAST.tv
Counter-Strike 2 is the fifth game in the Counter-Strike series. The multiplayer first-person shooter sees two teams face off against one another to complete objectives while eliminating one another.
The game was released in 2023, providing a free update to the previous entry, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
The very first Counter-Strike 2 Major Championship was held in Copenhagen in 2024, although it was the 20th Counter-Strike Major overall.

Just like previous Majors, the Austin 2025 Major will feature group stages, followed by single-elimination playoffs to determine the eventual champions. However, this tournament will see the number of teams expanded from 24 to 32, with an additional group stage added.

The map pool for the tournament includes Ancient, Anubis, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, Nuke and Train.
Group Stages - June 3-15
The tournament begins with Stage 1, where 16 teams that have qualified from the Major Regional Qualifiers will compete for 8 spots in the next stage. This stage will take place between June 3 and June 6.
For Stage 2, the 8 top teams from Stage 1 will be joined by 8 teams invited based on their Valve Regional Standing. This stage takes place between June 7 and June 10.
The top 8 teams will join Stage 3, the final group stage, which takes place between June 12 and June 15. During the group stages, matches are played to best-of-one except for elimination and progression matches, which are best-of-three.
Playoffs - June 19-22
The top 8 teams will progress to the playoffs, during which each match is played in a best-of-three format. These culminate in the final, which determines the winner of the tournament and its top prize of $500,000.
