2025 Nippon Professional Baseball Betting Odds - Bet on Japan NPB
The Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league is the highest level of professional baseball in Japan. It was the first professional sports league established in Japan and is arguably the second-best baseball league in the world behind Major League Baseball. The NPB ranks second behind MLB in both revenue and attendance among pro baseball leagues in the world. By joining Stake Sportsbook, it’s possible to place bets on the NPB, even from half a world away. Stake features a range of markets for baseball betting, including the NPB. Of course, we first wanted to put together a guide so that you can learn more about the NPB before you venture into Japanese baseball betting.
What is Japan Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB)
The NPB is Japan’s pro baseball league and the premier baseball league in Asia. In Japan, the league is known as puro yakyu, which translates to “professional baseball.” It features a high level of baseball that’s higher than Korean baseball (KBO League) but not that far below the MLB level. Many Japanese players have become star players in the NPB before moving to the U.S. and playing in the big leagues. Shohei Ohtani is undoubtedly the best example, as he’s a bona fide baseball legend in both the U.S. and Japan.
History of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB)
Professional baseball in Japan has been around since the 1930s. The Japanese Baseball League (JBL) operated from 1936 until 1949, when it was reorganised into the NPB, which has been operating ever since. At various points, both the Yomiuri Giants and Seibu Lions have established dynasties in the NPB, establishing themselves as the premier Japanese team. In the 1990s, the world started to take more notice of the NPB when several of its biggest stars began to sign with MLB clubs and become star players in the majors, elevating the profile of Japanese baseball.
Format & Schedule of the 2025 Nippon Professional Baseball
The 12 teams in the NPB will play 143 baseball games during the 2025 NPB regular season. The season began on March 28 and concludes on October 2. Similar to the American League and National League in MLB, the NPB is split between the Central League and the Pacific League, which have six teams each. The top three teams in each league qualify for the postseason, with the champion of the Central League facing the champion of the Pacific League in the Japan Series, which is best-of-7, just like the World Series.
Nippon Professional Baseball Teams
As mentioned, there are 12 teams in the NPB, with six in the Central League and six in the Pacific League. The Yomiuri Giants are the most successful team in NPB history. They have won 22 championships and been the Japan Series runner-up 14 times, both of which are more than any other team. The Saitama Seibu Lions and Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks are the next most prestigious teams in the NPB with 13 and 11 championships, respectively.
On the other side of the spectrum, the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles have just one NPB championship. While all 12 teams have won the Japan Series at one point in their history, the Golden Eagles are the only team without multiple championships.

How to Bet on Japan NPB & Baseball Bet Types
Stake Sportsbook offers a wide range of betting markets for NPB games. The betting types of NPB games are similar to what you will find for other baseball leagues. If you’re unfamiliar with baseball betting, you may read our guide on how to bet on baseball or take a quick look at the most common types of baseball bets:
Total - Totals betting in any sport allows you to ignore the winner and loser and make a wager based solely on the total number of runs scored in a game.
Handicap - A handicap bet is the baseball version of betting against the spread. In baseball, this is called the run line. With spread betting in baseball, the favoured team typically must win by at least two runs for a winning bet.
Player Props - Prop bets are among the most popular betting options in baseball and can be based on a variety of factors, including how many strikeouts a pitcher gets or whether a hitter has a home run or an RBI in the game.
Live Bets - Once a game begins, live bets can still be placed on the outcome or specific game events.
Parlay - A parlay allows a bettor to combine multiple bets into a single bet so that the payout increases, albeit with a higher level of difficulty, because if one bet in a parlay loses, the entire parlay loses. Keen baseball bettors can use our bet builder to help form their multi-betting slip!
Future - Futures betting is also called long-term bets. These are typically bets made on the ultimate winner of the league championship or the participants in the championship series.
Live Stream Baseball for Free & Live Betting Markets
Stake Sportsbook aims to provide competitive match odds for all NPB games. Of course, the odds and payout will vary based on the game and the specific bet. For instance, the favoured baseball team could have a moneyline of -180, meaning a $10 bet will pay $15.55. Meanwhile, the underdog in that game could have a moneyline of +150, so a $10 bet will pay $25. At Stake, you also have the option of viewing your odds in the American format, fractional format, or decimal format, so you can decide the format that will make you comfortable when placing bets.
Baseball Betting Tips, Predictions & Strategies
Betting on baseball usually requires a plan. Many sports bettors use the Kelly Criterion System or another formal and established betting system. Even if you have your own system or strategy, keep a few things in mind when betting on baseball to make sure you always make informed betting decisions.
Don’t place a bet until you see the lineup of a game, just in case a key player is nursing an injury or getting a day off.
The starting pitcher for each team usually has a strong influence on the winner of a game. But don’t just look at each pitcher’s performance; consider each pitcher’s track record against the hitters he’ll be facing.
Look closely at the recent performance of each team. Likewise, consider each team’s record at home versus on the road. You also want to take into account if a team has traveled a lot recently or had a long stretch since their last off day. These factors can make teams tired and sluggish.
Don’t forget to take into account weather conditions that could give either the pitchers or the hitters a distinct advantage.
