Alex Pereira vs Magomed Ankalaev
Pereira’s rise to stardom in the UFC has been nothing short of spectacular. From his TKO win and subsequent KO loss to long-standing rival Israel Adesanya at middleweight to his impressive reign at light heavyweight, he’s cemented himself as one of the greats of the UFC. Now, he’ll face his toughest test yet as he takes on 20-1-1 fighter, Ankalaev. Pereira made his third straight title defense in his last fight but got caught several times, potentially an indicator that his reactions are slowing.
Pereira’s strengths are in his excellent striking, particularly his low kicks and left hook. However, his grappling abilities are lacking compared to other fighters in the UFC. Some feel that Ankalaev may be able to exploit this weakness, but Ankalaev isn’t a particularly strong wrestler. He has just one submission win, and his only loss in professional MMA came by way of submission. This will be the biggest fight of his career so far.
Justin Gaethje vs Dan Hooker
While everyone is understandably excited for the main event, this has a good chance of being the best fight on the card. Gaethje and Hooker are two fighters who would never back down from a fight and always throw with bad intentions. Both have some excellent fights on their record and have won multiple fight of the night and performance of the night bonuses.
Gathje is known for being a bonus winning machine, with some of the best KO’s in the lightweight division. However, he did get stopped in his last fight and is perhaps not as comfortable on the ground as he is on his feet. Hooker is currently on a 3-fight win streak, including a win over potential contender Gamrot, so he has the momentum on his side.
Jalin Turner vs Ignacio Bahamondes
This clash between lightweights Jalin Turner and Ignacio Bahamondes should also be a great fight. Jalin Turner has just one win in his last four fights. He got a performance of the night bonus with an impressive stoppage against King Green but lost his last fight against Moicano after he could have won in the first round.
Turner will need to be at the top of his game to beat Bahamondes, who put on one of the fights of the year against Manuel Torres at UFC Noche in his last time in the cage. He’s currently on a 2-fight win streak, and 69% of his career wins have been by KO or TKO.
